The Week(End) in Stuff: Experimental Jet Set, Pop and Some Stars

The second weekend of October brings some pretty great shows to the southland. Here's what we recommend checking out:

10/10 - It's never not a bad thing when Lily Allen comes back around (I think) and even if her latest album didn't do much for me, she still manages to put on great shows, her date at the Hollywood Palladium should be no exception.

10/10 - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers stop by the Forum and are bringing Steve Winwood as opener along for the ride.

10/11 - Thurston Moore is back with another solo record (The Best Day, out October 20 on Matador) and a tour. He'll be stopping by the Constellation Room in Santa Ana along with Sebadoh. Sonic Youth was one of my early obsessions and while the band itself is missed, it's still great to see Thurston out there creating.

10/12 - Mary Timony's latest project, Ex Hex, stops by The Echo on Sunday night. The new album is pure power pop perfection and the show should be a lot of fun.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention one of my (not so) guilty pleasures, Genesis, has a documentary airing on Showtime this weekend called Genesis: Sum of the Parts. The band's story is pretty well documented by this point but the film should be worth watching for the new interviews from all members of the band.
